My Firefox browaer starts with searchnu rather than Google. When I try to reset it it says that the searchnu tool bar has not allowed the change to take place. How do I step by step remove this malware program. My pc tools won't remove it

Matt_G 1 year ago Hi nlmiles,
We've got a Search and Home page troubleshooting section that I think you might be interested in. There is information in there specifically about searchnu that should be of use.
Hopefully this helps!

sillymoy 1 year ago Open up Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall "Searchqu Toolbar". Then open Firefox and uninstall extensions associated with ilivid, bandoo media and searchqu/searchnu. Also, you need to change the keyword.URL preference value. It may point to search-results. com or searchnu. com. Just scroll down to "remove searchnu in firefox" part of this removal guide:
http://deletemalware.blogspot.com/2012/04/remove-searchnu-uninstall-guide.html
Keyword.URL value usually points to google, read more here:

SearchnuSupport 1 year ago Hi,
I'm a member of the Searchnu Support Team. I'm here to help :)
@nlmiles- When the software was installed onto your pc it offered two basic installs, typical installation, which lists the add-on features such as searchnu default search, and Custom installation, which allows you to select the add-ons that you wish to install. There's no need to worry if you did the typical install - this isn't a virus, nor malware, and there's no need to Perform a virus scan against it.
If you wish to uninstall Searchnu please follow the instructions below:
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > look for windows searchnu toolbar > Uninstall
If you followed the instructions and still can't find a solution to the issue, please don't hesitate to let us know and we will walk you through it :)
Thank you, The Searchnu Support Team

eamonn4388 1 year ago easy to remove - probably an unwelcome extra with program recently downloaded.
To remove searchnu use a system restore before the software was downloaded. start - all programs - system tools - system restore and choose a time just before it was installed then let it do its thing - BE AWARE - that this will remove reg entries for all programs from the date of the restore so do not use this if you have recently installed a program that you have paid for. With Chrome it may still remember the searchnu site just change the home page back to what it should be.
To remove the program that delivered search nu as an add on to you.I would suggest revo unistaller - Free version
http://www.revouninstaller.com/start_freeware_download.html
this removes the progam and deletes all reg entries so getting rid of it for good. If it delivers this rubbish it deseves to go.

John99 1 year ago Anyone using System Restore please take care, and be aware that it could break Firefox in some circumstances, and may have unintended consequences. Personally I would not recommend using System Restore and restore points as an alternative to trivial uninstalls.
-
eamonn4388 1 year ago one of the options on system restore is to undo the last operation so if you are not 100 % happy you can just undo the last operation thus minimising any risks
- Main problem on the internet is misdirection to sites that offer programs which put addons such as searchnu and other rubish that no one would willingly put on their machine
-
NZFilmProf 1 year ago I uninstalled searchnu as per the above. This did NOT solve the problem.
-
eamonn4388 1 year ago I have uninstalled it twice sucessfully - You need to ensure that the roll back is to before the toolbar was installed and in the end as searchnu is in cache it will remain simply going to options and changing your homepage back to the original will change that.

NZFilmProf 1 year ago "...ensure that the roll back is to before the toolbar was installed and in the end as searchnu is in cache it will remain simply going to options and changing your homepage back to the original will change that. "
Do you want to repeat that? In English, this time.

ceryac 1 year ago No, it doesn't help. I have removed the searchnu toolbar but how do I remove searchnu files from the registry and the extensions associated with searchnu ?
-
John99 1 year ago Ceryac,
Please let us know
- What device and Operating System you are using ?
(Are you for instance using a laptop pc with Windows Vista.) - and can you also say to the best of your knowledge
- which searchnu related software you chose to install ?
- and the type of installation ?
(typical or a custom option)
- What searchnu related files and registry entries are you aware of ?
- What unininstall methods have you tried already ?
- If you are using Windows on a PC did you try uninstalling searchnu using the control panel ?
Hopefully John of SearchnuSupport will then be able to provide an answer within this open forum thread of the recommended action to clean it up.
Normally I would recommend that you start your own thread about your own problem, rather than use someone else's but a successful detailed answer may well benefit other readers of this fairly popular thread.
In addition you should also look at the other posts within this thread, and in particular at the items linked from the posts chosen as helpful and solving the original question.
It would be nice if such software once installed included an easily understood, efficient and simple uninstaller, but I guess there may be a business plan to maximise profits that results in it being easy to install and difficult to uninstall.
Finally I would add a reminder that you should always be careful what you click on and what you install. It may be worth reading the "small print" "terms and conditions" because you could be agreeing inadvertently to wide ranging changes and installations on your PC.

Johnparri 9 months ago I watched several of these videos on removing this virus, and all of the other advice on posts. I restored IE, and my home page in Firefox. But when I open new tabs in FF, it still took me to Searchnu. I figured out the answer.
In the Firefox url, type "about:config" Click through the warning In the search filter, search on "searchnu" When a result came up, Iooked closely at the directory path to the result, and it went to C:/Program Files(x86)/Searchnu
I deleted this folder. Now everything works fine, and my new tabs take me where I want to go..

Mominator 9 months ago I woke up this morning and found this piece of garbage on my computer. How it got there, I don't know, because I didn't install anything new. I removed it via the Control Panel, uninstalling the Searchqu Toolbar. I also noticed a shortcut on my desktop, for some emoticons that I didn't install. I got rid of that too. I ran CCleaner afterwards, and all seems to be well. I also had to switch my homepage back to what I normally use.
