Please tell me how to get my google toolbox back after I downloaded firefox 5

Nagareboshi20 1 year ago Be patient - wait till Google updates the toolbar, so it's compatible with the latest Firefox version. I'm waiting for this as well, but there's nothing we can really do.
-
terry-b 1 year ago Do you not think that Firefox should liaise with Google before releasing new versions. I can no longer access my bookmarks stored with my Google account, very frustrating. Of if they can't be bothered liaising then they could at least add a warning before the new version download. I miss the form spellchecker too!
-
Nagareboshi20 1 year ago That would be a good idea. They could first show a new version to other web developers (Google, Yahoo etc) so they could at least start updating their software to be compatible. Then, after a couple of days delay the browser could be released to public.
-
Alanrf 1 year ago But isn't this typical of FireFox nowadays - shoot first and think later. Depressing that they know of incompatibilities but don't tell you until it's too late.
Same happened with v 4, and that took a long time to fix. Why bother entering a version race when they can't handle the important details?
There again, it's free and you get what you pay for nowadays.Very sad!
-
dmcneel 1 year ago very very frustrating...all of my bookmarks are in the google toolbar. There should be a warning before installation...i'm going to have to revert to the earlier version. i love firefox but this was not well thought out
-
trevorlonguk 1 year ago I can't believe that a worldwide company such as Firefox and Google don't sort this out before releasing updates............Doh..........Come on get with the programme we're in the 21st century........
-
Nagareboshi20 1 year ago I have just installed the Compatibility Reporter add-on - it can enable the other add-ons considered as incompatible. It seems to work fine - after restarting Firefox twice (as required) it magically brought back my Google Toolbar and even Google Gears. You can find it here: [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fire.../?src=api]
-
makelle 1 year ago Is there a reason why add-ons break with updates? Not all add-ons break with updates, so does this mean some developers of add-ons knowingly restrict their add-ons to certain versions?
-
mfraser 1 year ago I've installed the compatibility reporter which has got the toolbar working, but I can't enable the Google new tab page. It was working before I upgraded to 5 and there's no longer an option in settings.
-
thosthos 1 year ago I've been using Firefox since the beginning, but I'm about to return to IE. Google Toolbar is my most important add-on and this is the second time in a matter of months that Mozilla have released new versions of Firefox without bothering to see if they work with the toolbar. This sort of contempt for users is why I left IE in the first place, but even MS manage to get the toolbar working with new releases. If you aren't prepared to support widely used add-ons, why bother having add-ons in the first place.
This sort of arrogance will ruin Firefox - Goodbye.
-
songofsorrow 1 year ago for some reason, my google toolbar seems to be working! it didn't in the beginning, and i tried installing the firefox add-on compatibility reporter, which didn't seem to work no matter how many times i tried, but the moment i disabled add-on compatibility reporter (after installing it mind you), google toolbar was back on. so.. i'm not sure how or why the google toolbar is back, but i sure am glad!

google toolbar for firefox 5
-
Hjulbolten 1 year ago You can try to add Google Bookmarks in iGoogle. I did :-)
-
RedYeti 1 year ago There is a plugin that provides a workaround for this (and other incompatibilities) - see this:
http://www.deargeek.co.uk/2011/06/firefox-5-0-google-toolbar-surprise-fix-it/
It should enable just about any plugin on 5 - but bear in mind they haven't been tested with five and so may not work...
-
rsimoncol 1 year ago Be patient? This is the kind of major problem Firefox should have fixed BEFORE releasing Firefox5.
-
TimH 1 year ago It seems worse than bonkers that Firefox releases an update that isn't compatible with the worlds biggest search engine toolbar. Get real Firefox, and liase with Google properly.
-
Chimel 1 year ago Keep using Firefox 5, it has better security. Google Toolbar still works just fine with Firefox 5, but until Google releases a toolbar compatible with Firefox 5, you need to disable add-on compatible versions verification. You can do this by installing Mozilla's Add-On Compatibility Reporter extension from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/15003 and restarting Firefox twice. It basically tells Firefox to ignore the maximum compatible version so the toolbar can be enabled on version 5 too, not blocked just because Firefox releases major version numbers like mad just for the sake of catching up with IE9 and Chrome 12.
-
kwow 1 year ago My guess, Firefox 5 has the SYNC which includes bookmark sync, a feature that competes with Google Toolbar's bookmark. I can understand why Firefox guys are not in a hurry to ensure Google Toolbar is compatible.
-
ManDan 1 year ago I was surprised firefox 5 didn't support google toolbar. Nowadays community are beginning to filled with non-respectful individuals. They do not care why Google Toolbar is very important to some people - especially developers. They themselves are developers but they are too stupid and stubborn to respect this issue. I suggest mozilla 'fire' the person(s) involved in notifying to upgrade to Firefox 5 without paying careful 'conscious' regarding certain issue. If more people like 'these' fill in the community, mozilla will have their own grave buried sooner or later.
How come they do not check first before urgently recommend people to upgrade to 5 when one of the major issue doesn't resolved? If it is not important, this issue here will not be brought up. They who do not have any idea certainly wouldn't care but why must mozilla developers start thinking like an asshole assuming that everybody doesn't care about this issue?
Start developed self-conscious about there are people whose 'upgraded' and whose not. Pay attention to smart people rather than valuing vast amount of people who have no idea of whatsoever!
-
nicolaslys 1 year ago Download this "Add On Compatibility reporter" by mozilla. (Just google it and then install it). Then download and install the google toolbar as normail. It bypasses the compatibility issue...

congaman59 1 year ago I'm staying with Firefox4 until the compatibility update comes out. That's the easiest fix. Firefox without the Google toolbar is like a day without Sunshine.
-
Nathan2055 1 year ago Please take a look at what Verdi is saying. Use the compatibility tool, and if that doesn't work, use this guide and this installer to downgrade to FF3.6.
-
barneybeau 1 year ago hi how do i resort to the earlier version??? Please help im missing google!
-
Sicknero 1 year ago I tried the Compatabilty add on but it led to instability issues for me, so I will wait for Google to fix the toolbar. But, I did discover that you can access your Google bookmarks without the toolbar (www.google.com/bookmarks , which also has a button you can drag to the bookmarks toolbar) so at least that's one option. On a similar topic though, I see that Orbit download manager is already fixed for Firefox 5 after just a few days.
-
Nathan2055 1 year ago Barneybeau, read this to learn how to downgrade, when you're ready you can get the installer here.

malious 1 year ago do this: (for windows)
1) first enable your system to show hidden files and folders. xp users: open my computer or any explorer window(any folder) go to tools>folder options>view>check 'show hidden files and folders'>press 'ok'
win 7 users: open any explorer window(any folder) go to Organize>Folder and Search Options>view>check 'show hidden files and folders'>press 'ok'
2) XP: go to this folder C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\5ft8akq1.default\extensions\{3112ca9c-de6d-4884-a869-9855de68056c} here 'C' is the partition where your os is installed. '5ft8akq1.default' is the default profile of your firefox, the random number might be different but it will have '.default' at the end. if you are using any other profile than default then go to the folder. open 'install.rdf' file in a notepad. find 'em:maxVersion' phrase. you will see 4.0.* is written there. change it to 5.0.* restart firefox.for windows 7, i can't tell the exact location of google toolbar folder, but once you find it out, the rest should be the same.
you are done, google toolbar is working as good as earlier.

MMO2GO 1 year ago I'm am computer dumbazz but I think I got it easy-peazy on this. Put your cursor on the skinny blue portion of the new Mozilla home toolbar and right click. Check add on toolbar. Whoopee. Your stuff is back. Check the rest for grins! Now, help me get rid of the sundry fixes posted that got me to accept incompatible add ons. I get this damned message every time I open Firefox and it is not on my uninstall programs list.
-
nlightenup 1 year ago After reading several of these posts I've decided to wait until Mozilla fixes the problem before updating. It's just not worth the hassle. I agree with all the folks who think they should have had the Google toolbar compatibility problem worked out before releasing the update.
-
WellBeing 1 year ago I have same problem. How can i normally instal toolbar without installing some adds-on?

malious 1 year ago the google toolbar compatibility problem did not happen in the firefox's end...it solely related to the google's end only. google toolbar keeps the firefox version in its configeration file which i believe firefox should not force to change itself...it should be google who should keep track with firefox's version because the broser always comes first, then the toolbar.

THIS WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CharleyRSA 1 year ago Be patient? Wait? Surely two weeks is long enough??!! Time to get rid of Firefox 5...
-
5846215 1 year ago How much longer do we have to wait???????
-
speedyfastcat 1 year ago Are you telling users that Google STILL has not released a toolbar compatible with Firefox Version 5.0? What the hell have they been doing? What is causing this delay? This is totally unacceptable and incredibly unprofessional!!!!!!!!!! Why aren't Google and Firefox at least pretending they care about users of their products? Totally irresponsible to launch "upgrades" (hah!) without making sure everything works - oh, I know, what an amazing concept!!!
-
baltimorebob 1 year ago I have my google tool bar back, the translator works but you have to push the button every time to translate the web page. With the old foxfire if the web page was in another language the translator would pop up and ask if you wanted the page translated. This still sucks.
-
mendmakedo 1 year ago Not only do I miss Google toolbar, but FF5 slowed my mac down to a crawl. I've trashed it - rather wait till they fix a few issues
-
juliacreane 1 year ago the warning came before the end of the download/installation process. There you had the chance to get out of it... I didn't quite get what they were saying to me and just accepted. I am sure it will be there soon. Your Google account should still be accessible by typing google.com.... into your address bar
-
Wyvern 1 year ago Be patient!!!
Now supposing a road that you use every day has just been re-surfaced and you are told that your vehicle is not compatible with it would you just sit back and accept it? Of course you wouldn't so why should we put with computer programmers screwing us?

hayley.downes 1 year ago Thank you thank you. this was very helpful. :))
-
Verdi 1 year ago The solution is to install the Add-on Compatibility Reporter. It will force Google Toolbar to work. You can find detailed instructions here: Re-enable add-ons that were disabled when updating Firefox
-
uranotaenia 1 year ago This is only a partially working solution...the new tab/most visited sites functionality does not work with this temporary fix.
-
the-edmeister 1 year ago Google Labs has been working on a Google Toolbar version 8, but it looks like it isn't made for Firefox - just for Internet Explorer.
http://www.google.com/support/toolbar/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1111588#toolbar_info
See: + What browsers and operating systems is the new Google Toolbar compatible with?
Toolbar 8 works on the following browsers:* Internet Explorer 7* * Internet Explorer 8* * Internet Explorer 9*
Maybe Google isn't going to be supporting Firefox any longer. That might be a move to force Google Toolbar users over to Google Chrome, which I believe has all those features built-in. Unless I am not looking in the right place for a Firefox version, with Firefox 5+ compatibility?
-
nimbosa 1 year ago in Nagareboshi20's case, it magically brought back my Google Toolbar and even Google Gears. You can find it here: Add-on compatibility reporter https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-on-compatibility-reporter/

Grindlay 1 year ago Set the built-in (default) search bar to use google or do : about:config look for keyword.url set value to : http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q= Now you can type your keywords into the address bar the same way you can in Chrome. The Google Toolbar would seem to be defunct.
