we may be able to offer help if you can get the specifics:
Go to the address about:crashes and tell us your latest crash IDs. We can then look at the data specific to your crash and have a better idea of what is causing the problem.

i have the same problem. It just freezes. I think its because of the new version of shockwave flash addon. After it was update the problem started

This browser is incredibly unstable.
If I have more than 4-5 tabs open in Vista, it's a sure bet it will crash and the page will gray out if I open another.
Lame....very lame.

I have to join the chorus. Firefox completely hoses at least twice a day, usually in the middle of work that ends up being lost. FRUSTRATING!!!!!
The only way to resolve the problem is to end the process in Task Manager, which shows unbelievable suction of memory resources. Talk about the Big Gig Mozilla in the room. Back to IE.

I would really like to submit a crash report. But Firefox doesn't even recognise that it has crashed both itself and my computer. I don't know how to gather any evidence to identify the cause.
My computer will suddenly reboot, losing everything I'm working on. No particular sequence of events prior to the crash, other than using the browser.
Firefox v 4.0 windows xp.

I solved it uninstalling the IE 9 from my machine, and this problem also ocurred with Firefox 3.6.17 and Google Chrome 11. Tried to install the Win 7 SP1 by Windows Update but got an "Unknow error", this worked fine after the get IE 9 out too. My system: AMD Phenom X4 / 3GB RAM Windows 7 Home Premium Without SP1

Seems to be an intermittent problem. I have found the problem to be Sync with Xmarks. If I turn Xmarks off, no more crashes. Try and sync, and it crashes every time. Turn sync off, no more problems. Guess I will go back to Crome so that I can keep all 3 comps synced.

Since the "new improved" versions have come out, there have been a lot of crash reports from a lot of people. It's clear that the problem relates to the "new improved" versions, and that the problems are NOT insignificant. To suggest that the problems relate to something unique to a particular user's machine, operating system etc. is not at all helpful. The problem's cause is generic, and the solution should also be generic. I've been experiencing these crashes for the last few months, and quite frankly it's not worth my time to go through the effort and exercise to find the unique feature that may be the source of the problem.
Firefox has had more than an ample opportunity to fix the problem, and it hasn't done so. I'm switching to Google Chrome.

Here is the signature that it gives me when i go to about:crashes. So sick and tired of Firefox crashing, seriously thinking about heading back to IE,kicking and screaming the entire way! I want this to get fixed so I don't have to do that!

Crashing several times a day for no observable reason. Happens when I click a link, move a open page to a new window, type a search into Wikipedia and hit enter, anything at all.

I wondered how I'd missed this thread but it is ancient history. The MyWebSearch plug-in would have been the likely source of the original problem.
Strongly recommend that you establish your own thread with your own questions and your particular problem and as much detail as you can re extensions, plug-ins and third party toolbars.

This thing is as unstable as a troubled child on crack. x.x il continue picking off addons till it stops but as a helpful hint firefox people make a "dumb lock" on it to prevent addons from crashing it if an addon tells it to do something making it crash DON'T let it do it. D:<

I am having so much trouble with Firefox crashing!!! I have tried everything to fix it myself, even removed a program, and IT IS STILL CRASHING!!!! This really did not start until 5.0 was installed. Please help!!! This is getting so old!!!

I've tried updating my plugins, disabling my plugins, running Firefox in Safe Mode and still it crashes without any sort of pattern every 10-15 minutes. Any solution to this problem that it seems lots of people are having after installing Firefox 5 needs to come quick or they will lose a lot of customers.

Having the same problem and I just updated to FF6. I'm really getting tired of the crashes. I'm on a Mac and it might have something to do with Flash, as always.

i am on XP pro & 3.6.21 which was updated a day before. the pages would freeze almost instantly after startup. i went to FF 6, which i dont like, among screen layout & placement of things, my greasemonkey was not working. Luckily i saved the 3.6 folder, now i just started FF from the older folder & it seems to be fine, while leaving 6.0 folder out there. do know why but works for me.

Firefox is now riddled with problems and every update seems to bring more of them. Flash videos don't play, streaming content is problematic, uploads fail randomly. Firefox used to be the best browser around now its just another IE.

Hi,
Here are some tips to avoid Firefox crashing constantly.
Plug-ins like Adobe Reader, Flash Player and Java etc permit Firefox to allocate extra memory when activated and retain the memory when not in use.
You need to install the latest versions of Firefox having these stability and security features.
Firefox crashing Constantly is ensured if download history is let to build up.
All you need to do is go on clicking on ‘Tools’, then ‘Options’, then ‘Privacy’, then ‘Download History’, then ‘Remove Files in Download Manager’.
It will be set then. Firefox crashing constantly is also caused by some viruses and spyware by making Firefox unable to show pages correctly.
The means to avoid this is to update your systems with firewall, Antivirus, antispyware software and don’t open dangerous links in e-mails.
Keep in mind to run Firefox in Safe mode hindering all add-ons.

I`ve lost count of the number of times it crashes each day. Each time it`s on the start page when I enter a search. A message comes up saying `I`m sorry` . (like hell they are). I then have to click on either restore firefox or quit firefox & a crash report is sent. Nothing is ever done. I don`t like IE9 but end up going there, odd that it`s only on Firefox. I don`t have this problem with IE9 but as I said I don`t like it. I`m seriously considering leaving Firefox & recommend others do too. I can`t decide which web browser to use as I don`t want to use IE9. If Firefox can`t be bothered to help loyal users why bother with them. I have the latest version of Flash Player (11). It seems to have become worse since updating to Flash 11 but only on Firefox. Firefox obviously is unable to cope with the latest Flash Player although other browsers don`t have this problem. On occasions it crashes twice in a row & then I get the message `this is embarrassing, it`s not it`s inefficient.

I have Windows XP Pro SP3 and had the constant random firefox crashes without any crash reports being generated using firefox versions 5.0 thru 6.02. I finally got a crash report generated and it pointed to Quicktime 7.7 software. I un-installed Apple ITUNES 10.4 and Quicktime and all other Apple software related to ITUNES ((ITUNES 10.4, Quicktime, apple software update, apple mobile device support, bonjor and Apple application support) and the crashes finally stopped. I tried installing ITUNES 10.4 software again and the random firefox crashes started again. So it seems like there is a problem with Apple software causing random firefox crashes, at least on my PC. I know many people will not want to uninstall all Apple software. If anyone else finds out the firefox crashes stop after they uninstall all Apple software, please add feedback on here.

What is wrong with foxxy? I really had to change my default browser to Opera several times, that being the case now as well, because it CONTINUOSLY crashes randomly: being on twitter, facebook, entering a youtube video, posting a blog comment.

I don't get it. I was always fond of Firefox, but these issues really do chase me away from it.
By crashes I mean: Not Responding.

Upgraded to Firefox 8 and everytime I upload to my CMS it crashes, my cookies are not cached and I have to relaunch and log back in... can I revert to Firefox 6?

I've been having crashes about every ten minutes or so with FF 3.6.24. I uninstalled my QuickTime 7.7.1 and reinstalled 7.6.9 and (hoping I've not just jinxed it) the crashes have stopped.

This thread is old, and specific reasons for crashes change, new crashes appear and older ones get resolved or disappear completely as software evolves.
Being SUMO day it is likely a passing mod will lock the thread anyway. It is also a good day for asking questions you have an improved chance of a successful answer.

For me uninstalling Quicktime software (specifically 7.7) stopped my firefox crashes. I have Quicktime 7.69 version installed with no problems

I have this problem as well. It's becoming so persistent that I've begun using a Opera and IE in tandem. There are times when I leave the computer and come back to find firefox has crashed.
I turned off "Use hardware acceleration when available", because I thought it might help, but still no luck. I've also made sure each addon is up to date, but again this didn't remedy the problem.
Any help it getting this resolved would be appreciated. I'd rather not have to use two separate browsers to do what I did with Firefox.
I've included a screenshot of my submitted crash reports, in addition to a list of my 11 most recent submitted reports. On most occasions I don't submit a crash report, especially if multiple crashes occurred in the same day.

By all means read this thread and any tips and advice it contains. Please however bear in mind that this is a very old thread initially started when Firefox 3.6 was in use, but the current Release is version 10.0.2 No one is actively offering any help or advice in this thread.

Sorry you are having so many problems with Firefox.
- Is it only Firefox that crashes?
- Have you tried in Firefox's Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode ?
  - and with all plugins disabled
  - it would also then be worth trying starting in Windows own Safe mode in addition to the above.
- Have you tried to rule out the possibility of malware by scanning with multiple up-to-date tools.
P.S. it is probably a good idea for you to start a new thread also

I found that post and tried the suggestion.
I changed "dom.ipc.plugins.enabled" to false, as it seems my issue mostly occurred when I was trying to access gmail. So far so good, but I'll continue to monitor things and see how well they hold up.

Glad you fixed the problem, lets hope it stays fixed.
Changing that pref may result in crashes that only previously stopped say FlashPlayer working now bringing down the entire browser. There is conjecture in the thread you linked to that security software not recognising plugincontainer.exe operation could be the cause of the crashes, it may be worth investigating that as it could result in a better solution if the security software can be re-configured.

You have quite a list of crashes, I looked at some of those reports and the crash signature is not always the same, you may yet find that some crashes still occur.

I note at least one of those crashes is related to Internet Content Filter, but this is an old thread and not; in my opinion; the place to discuss your problem.
May I ask you please to start a new thread. Include a couple of CrashIDs from each of the three computers. Follow the advice in Firefox crashes - Troubleshoot, prevent and get help fixing crashes. You must also try firefox in Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode and with all plugins disabled. If Firefox crashes in such a status again please provide Crash IDs

so it is apparently another problem related to McAfee use.
