As for youtube and other sites, they check the user agent string sent by your browser, so you can change that to a higher Firefox version using the User Agent Switcher extension.

I have to run firefox on a cd drive which is not good for my mac, I can use youtube becasue my browser is too old. I do have plenty of memory ect..
