How to set up Firefox Home on your iOS device (iPhone and iPad)

Firefox Home gives you instant access to your Firefox desktop history, open tabs and bookmarks on your iPhone or iPod Touch. Since it works with Firefox Sync on your desktop you'll have to set that up first. Once that's done, you'll just need to connect Firefox Home to your Firefox Sync account.

Part 1: Set up Firefox Sync on your desktop

  1. At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button and then select OptionsAt the top of the Firefox window, click on the Tools menu and then select OptionsOn the menu bar, click on the Firefox menu and select Preferences...At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Edit menu and select Preferences . In the OptionsPreferences window, click on the Sync tab.
  2. Click Set Up Firefox Sync.

  3. Click Create a New Account.

  4. Enter your email address, create a password and confirm it. Then check "I agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy" and click NextContinue.
  5. This is your Sync KeyRecovery Key. Now is a good time to save or print a copy of your key and store it somewhere safe. When you are done with this step, click NextContinue.

    The Sync KeyRecovery Key is used to encrypt your data before it's sent to the Mozilla servers. Think of it as a key that locks your information in a vault that only you can open. This means that neither Mozilla nor anyone else can read your information without having your Sync KeyRecovery Key to unlock it.
  6. Confirm that you are not a robot by entering the text from the image. Then click NextContinue.
  7. You will see a Setup Complete! message. Click FinishDone to close the setup window and take you back to the Sync panel.

  8. You do not need to do anything else. Firefox Sync will automatically sync your data in the background from here on.
    This first sync should happen quickly but may take more than 30 minutes depending on how much information needs to be synced.


Part 2: Get the easy setup code from Firefox Home

  1. Launch Firefox Home and tap I Have A Sync Account.
  2. The code to add this device will be displayed.

Part 3: Connect Firefox Home to your Sync account

Enter the setup code on your desktop to connect Firefox Home to your Sync account

  1. In the Firefox Sync Account section, click on Add a Device and the Add a Device window will open.

  2. Enter the code in the Add a Device window as it's displayed on your second device. Then click NextContinue.

  3. When the code is accepted you will see a Device Connected message in Firefox and your device will immediately begin syncing. Click FinishDone to close the setup window and go back to the Sync panel.

  1. Click the Home button (or type about:home in the location bar) to bring up the default Firefox home page.
  2. At the bottom of the home page, click the Pair a Device link and the Firefox Sync Setup window will open.

  3. Enter the twelve character code generated on your other device and click NextContinue.

  4. When the code is accepted you will see a Device Connected message and your device will immediately begin syncing. Click FinishDone to close the setup window.

  5. When the code is accepted you will see a Device Connected message and your device will immediately begin syncing. Click FinishDone to close the setup window.

What if I'm not near my computer?

If you are trying to add Firefox Home to your Sync account and you're not near your computer so that you can enter the code, you can still get it done by entering your account information.

  1. From the Connect to Sync screen, tap I am not near my computer...
  2. Next, enter your Account (email address), Password, Sync KeyRecovery Key and tap Connect.

Part 2: Connect Firefox Home to your Sync account

Do these steps in Firefox Home.

  1. Launch Firefox Home and tap I Have A Sync Account.
  2. From the Connect to Sync screen, tap I am not near my Computer.
  3. Next, enter your Account (email address), Password, Sync Key (or Recovery Key) and tap Done.

Now that I’ve set up Firefox Home, how do I use it?

Search, Tabs and Bookmarks are available by tapping the buttons at the bottom of the app window. When using search just type words related to the website you are trying to find. Firefox Home will search through the titles and urls of your open tabs, bookmarks and browsing history to find a match.
